about

I'm Sarah, Sarah Kushner to be exact. (There are a lot of Sarahs.) I am a postdoc in the Geometric Intelligence Lab at the University of California Santa Barbara. I am also currently job hunting :) 🌈

My main research interests lie at the intersection of computational fabrication, geometry, HCI, and storytelling. I want to explore the kinds of technology that empower users to create and tell stories through digital or physical means, whether that be animatronic robots, zoetropes, or computer animation. Additionally, I am interested in geometric shape deformation in the context of animation and medical imaging.

In 2024, I finished my PhD in the Dynamic Graphics Project Lab at the University of Toronto. Before that, I completed my MS in Informatics in Grenoble, France at Grenoble INP and the Inria lab there in the Graphics, Vision and Robotics specialty. And even before that I did my Bachelor of Science degree at Drexel University in Philadelphia, where I grew up. And if you want to go back even further, I was born in San Francisco. Before that, I didn't exist.

I couldn't decide between my artistic side and my math side. So I made a ✨compromise✨, and took up computer graphics, where I get to do a little bit of both.

In my free time you can find me hanging out with my cat 🐈‍⬛, drawing 🎨, flipping 🤸‍♀️, enjoying stand-up comedy 🎤, playing Overwatch 🎮, or skydiving 🪂.
